How many years have you been cosplaying?
7 years, and I started the adventure as a small hobbit on the crafting journey of my own cosplays 5 years ago.
How were you introduced to cosplay?
I have always loved to dress up in costumes and having the dream of wearing my favourite characters outfits. But I was introduced of cosplay as hobby through friends who told me about conventions, which I researched a bit. I was then brought to convention with my first bought cosplay and felt already there that this was something I would like to do more.
As I discovered at these convention, that people made their own cosplays, I was quickly inspired to test the creativity of myself and try to create the characters with my own hands and express them through me. I love that.
What is your greatest achievement as a cosplayer?
I think it is a very difficult question for me to answer. I have achieved a lot of things as a cosplayer; probably most things that would not be called an achievement directly, and I can not come up with a specific one.
I would say some of the greatest things I have achieved, is dear friends, experiences with crafting and performing and daring to live out the dreams and try to achieve my goals with cosplay and extending my limits, so to say. Getting to share this alongside others is a wonderful thing for me.
In your opinion, what is the the greatest thing about cosplay?
Difficult to say, there is so much, but I think cosplay has, in general, done much for me. It allowed me to use, improve and unfold my creativity in so many different ways. It is probably also that I get to go out of my “shell” and step out of reality, escaping the everyday life and get into this “other world” of this character that I try to become when wearing the cosplay.
To manage to bring the character to life both through the craft and by wearing the cosplay is a wonderful feeling for me. Getting to express myself through cosplay is nice and I love to share the experience with other passionate cosplayers, which is some of the things I enjoy with this hobby the most.
Which of your costumes is your favourite?
By experience alone with crafting, performing and creativity in general – That would be my Cesare Borgia cosplay from the Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood game. I challenged myself quite a lot with lots of new materials and techniques. Also it was my second attempt of performing on stage and was for a more serious purpose than my first try with the cosplay show, which also taught me a lot. I learned and experienced a lot through that cosplay project.
But on the other hand, if I should say a cosplay that I have a all around feeling with: Enjoyed making, got experienced by doing, liked and felt comfortable wearing, satisfied with the result and felt I suited and was acceptably able to somewhat portray. Then that would be my Linkle cosplay from Hyrule Warriors Legends. It was a design that called out to me and gave me a nice satisfied cosplay feeling of what I wanted to achieve with it.
At first, I just wanted to make the cosplay as a “for fun” project only, but my passion to make it resemble the character as much as possible, and honouring her design and universe, took over me and it became a much more serious project. I went all in with my material choices and finished outcome of the look, to give the effect of the character being “pulled out into the real world” through me by how I looked and acted in the cosplay.
Do you have a dream costume?
Princess Zelda from Legend of Zelda. Most of the versions from the different many Zelda games – gotta make them all! I am a HUGE Zelda fan and I absolutely love to express myself, share, and tribute that through cosplay! I adore the many designs for the characters in this Nintendo game series, especially the character Zelda’s designs.
I would love trying to make them for myself and become the princess for a moment’s bliss. Especially the version from Twilight Princess; I have always loved this design to bits and have been continuously remaking it to try do it as much justice as I feel possible with the skills I have achieved with cosplay so far, and it means a lot to me.
What is your favourite convention memory?
I think it is probably getting to live out the dream with my dearest friend on the cosplay stage at Genki’s cosplay show 2016 with our silly Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker cosplays.
Having worked hard to achieve something we have been wishing to do together and also have lots of fun while doing so and entertaining lots of people, while we share our passion through the show.
And the very surprising and overwhelming feeling of gaining so much more than we ever expected from it, which also presented the unique chance for us to experience and live out the next step of our dream together as a cosplay team, while getting to entertain and make other people happy as we did. Such an indescribable feeling and unforgettable experience!
What are you looking forward to when coming to Genki?
For the fun and experience of getting to enjoy the cosplay show from a whole new perspective, as I have tried to be both in the crowd watching and on the stage myself entertaining and now I get to judge this wonderful show that I always look forward to the most at Genki!
It is going to be an exciting experience and I look sooooo much forward to seeing all the cosplays and shows! There is no doubt it is going to be absolutely amazing with all the talented cosplayers!
Any final words to our guests?
I can not wait to be a part of this and I am exciting about the experience – hopefully I will see you all there and no doubt it is going to be a wonderful time! I hope you all will have fun and enjoy the con! 😀
